Wardle wide-brimmed open-refractor lantern for 80w MBF lamps. Not much is known about this particular lantern other than it's believed to have been made by The Wardle Engineering Company Limited, Old Trafford, Manchester, and may have been a later development of their 1950's 'Palatine' lantern. There appears to be two versions of this open-refractor lantern, one with a wide-brim, and another similar version with a small brim. The example held in the collection has the wide brim and is believed to have come from somewhere in East Sussex; similar lanterns still exist in rural areas of East Sussex. The lantern was acquired from fellow collector Bob Cookson and came complete with its bracket and fuse box for mounting on telegraph poles.
